Patti Page Number 1 Female Singer of 50’s Dead at 85
Patti Page was a great one and had a profound influence on me. She died yesterday (January 2, 2013) at the age of 85.
Since this is the “Number 1 Project”, Patti had four number one songs during her career. They were:
- All My Love in 1950
- The Tennessee Waltz in 1950
- I Went to Your Wedding in 1952
- The Doggie in the Window in 1953
Patti was the number one best selling female singer of the 50’s. When I was in high school, the song “Old Cape Cod” (that peaked at number 3 on the charts) came out sung by Patti. I immediately went to the record store and bought the 45. I knew this girl that I wanted to impress, so I called her up and played the song over the telephone. After it finished, I said to her, “Isn’t that a great song?” She hesitated and then said, “Yea, I think my mother would like it.”
Needless to say, she did not have the same vision of music that I did. Here’s Patti Page:
